The Year Of The Monkey

 

Every now and then (once in a lifetime), a dream commission lands in my inbox.  I was asked by APM, who are the ‘largest shopping and commercial complex in Hong Kong’, to design monkeys for their Chinese New Year event.

I designed monkeys, birds and the patterns which were then used throughout the display and in their sister complex in Shanghai.  Super skilled Chinese craftsmen then re-created my monkeys as 3D forms around 5ft high.

FIVE FOOT HIGH!

Never did I dream that my little newspaper monkeys would one day be life-sized and hanging out in a shopping centre across the world *insert amazed face here*.

Here’s a bit of the process and some pics from Hong Kong. No, I didn’t get to fly out and see them…sigh.  The display is up until the end of February 2016, if you happen to be passing…
